Experts warn of a troubling surge in teenage boys, some as young as 13, using free AI programs to create realistic fake nude images of classmates and teachers. These “nudifying” apps have reportedly driven some victims, primarily girls, to suicide, highlighting severe mental health issues. The widespread use of these apps in classrooms has led to legal consequences for minors, with current laws imposing harsh penalties for creating or distributing indecent images of minors. Children’s Commissioner Dame Rachel de Souza urges the government to take significant action against these harmful applications, stating that such technology should not exist. The issue has prompted criminal cases with minors facing referrals after producing numerous indecent images. With investigations ongoing, tech giant Meta is also taking action against companies behind these apps. The rise of these incidents has seen a nearly 50% increase in sexual offenses involving child defendants in England and Wales from the previous year.
