Tencent Holdings is strategically targeting aggressive growth in the international cloud computing market, driven by the rising demand for Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) models. Senior executive vice-president Dowson Tong, CEO of Tencent’s Cloud and Smart Industries Group (CSIG), highlighted that overseas cloud operations have seen the “fastest” growth among its business segments, boasting high double-digit growth in recent years. AI is a significant catalyst for this expansion, offering numerous opportunities to introduce Chinese open-source AI models to global clients. Tong emphasized that many AI-powered applications are rapidly evolving, prompting Tencent to set ambitious growth targets, remaining on track to achieve them. Additionally, he noted that several markets are interested in hosting large language models locally, where Tencent can leverage its expertise and tools to implement effective AI solutions. This focus on AI-driven cloud services positions Tencent favorably in the competitive global market.
