With around 29 million users already utilizing chatbots for romantic or sexual dialogue, the introduction of adult content could offer OpenAI a new revenue stream amid financial challenges. However, ventures like Civitai and Nomi.ai, which embraced mature content, encountered legal and ethical dilemmas, including child safety issues. Altman’s announcement comes as legislation aimed at protecting minors from erotic AI interactions faced veto in California, prompting discussions on age restrictions and user safety in AI applications.
