Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly important in school security, marketed as a comprehensive solution for K-12 campuses. While AI enhances safety through automation and valuable insights, it remains a tool that complements, rather than replaces, human judgment and expertise. Effective school security relies heavily on Active Involvement, a longstanding principle wherein the entire school community participates in security strategies. This engagement fosters shared ownership, enhancing compliance with safety procedures. Successful security programs require intentional involvement, creating a culture of safety. Campus-level and district-level school safety committees are crucial for developing these strategies. Guy Bliesner, presenting at the Campus Safety Conference in Austin, emphasizes that while security must prevent threats, it must also respect the educational mission of schools. The joint effort of all stakeholders is essential for sustainable safety improvements. For further knowledge, the National Council of School Safety Directors offers a course, “Foundations of School Security Leadership,” targeting these critical issues.
