VSCO, the popular mobile photo editing app known for its film-inspired presets, has introduced a new feature allowing users to edit photos using text prompts. This functionality, part of VSCO’s AI Lab, enables seamless photo editing based on plain language requests. Users can upload images and describe desired changes, receiving AI-generated results that replicate film-like effects. The Prompt tool joins VSCO’s existing AI capabilities—Remove and Upscale—available on subscription, with a trial period for new features. Users can request specific retro styles, though results vary; for instance, vague prompts sometimes yield unsatisfactory edits. Additionally, while the AI performs well for effects like light leaks, it may misinterpret instructions, leading to unexpected image alterations. Ethical concerns arise regarding the AI’s training data, with efforts made to maintain image integrity. Users can access the new tool in the updated VSCO app on iOS and Android, although saving edits requires a subscription.
