Microsoft has launched Copilot 3D, an innovative AI tool that transforms standard 2D images into detailed 3D models without the need for advanced skills or expensive software. This rollout follows the introduction of GPT-5 powered Smart Mode, part of Copilot Labs, aimed at making 3D creation more accessible. Users can effortlessly create 3D models by uploading PNG or JPG images (under 10MB) and clicking “Create.” The models, exported in GLB format, are perfect for AR applications, 3D viewers, and design software, and can be stored for 28 days.
Microsoft advises against uploading copyrighted or identifiable images, warning that violations may lead to account restrictions. Copilot 3D is valuable for game development, animation, education, and 3D printing. While it performs well with clear images, limitations exist, such as challenges with animal anatomy and celebrities. Access to Copilot 3D is currently limited as part of a preview rollout. For an optimal experience, users should utilize desktop browsers.
