Transforming Education: Ghana’s Introduction of AI-Driven Apps in Senior High Schools

The Ministry of Education in Ghana is set to launch subject-specific Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in Senior High Schools (SHSs) to enhance the new curriculum. This initiative aims to support over 68,000 teachers and 1.4 million students, leveraging resources from teacher manuals and assessment tools tailored to Ghana’s educational context. In collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and other bodies, the program will function both online and offline, ensuring accessibility in rural and urban schools. A four-phase testing process will evaluate technical accuracy and educational quality, with pilot sessions already underway in 712 SHSs. Additionally, a nationwide training program for over 7,800 facilitators is planned for October 2025. The focus is on culturally relevant tools that complement teachers’ expertise, reduce their workload, and prepare students for the digital economy, affirming the ministry’s commitment to ethical, locally driven education technology.
