Transforming Educational Approaches Through AI Integration

In recent years, educational institutions worldwide have increasingly integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their systems, driven by promises of enhanced productivity and personalised learning. However, the positive narrative often overlooks significant concerns regarding the impact of AI on critical thinking, creativity, and self-agency. Over-reliance on AI can lead to intellectual subservience, diminishing students’ abilities to reason and question independently. Furthermore, the commodification of knowledge reduces essential critical thinking skills to mere prompt engineering. Teacher training programs have similarly prioritized the mechanics of AI use, neglecting deeper ethical and pedagogical discussions. The collaboration between corporations and education risks prioritising market competition over the nurturing of empathy and human values. While AI offers undeniable advantages in data management and accessibility, it’s imperative to adopt it responsibly, ensuring that human judgment and moral responsibility remain central. Developing a robust ethical framework is essential to address concerns surrounding bias, dependency, and the preservation of human creativity in education.
