In the evolving landscape of instructional design, artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping workflows and content creation, as detailed in Michelle Lentz’s guide, “Partner With AI for Instructional Design.” A recent ATD Research study, “AI in Instructional Design: Transforming Workflows and Content Creation,” surveyed 232 instructional designers, revealing that 80% currently leverage AI tools, primarily generative AI, to enhance their processes. These AI tools assist in various tasks, including outlining courses, brainstorming, and writing, proving highly effective for daily operations. However, their use is less common for developing learner personas and analyzing learner data, with only 21% and 19% of designers using AI for these tasks, respectively. Notably, narration is the primary multimedia asset created with AI, with 54% of designers utilizing it frequently.
