UF Secures $4.7M Air Force Contract to Develop AI Innovations for Campaign Planning

The University of Florida (UF) has secured a four-year, $4.7 million contract with the U.S. Air Force to innovate artificial intelligence (AI) systems aimed at enhancing campaign planning and decision-making in modern warfare. This initiative will be conducted by UF’s Florida Applied Research in Engineering (FLARE) team at the REEF campus near Eglin Air Force Base. The focus is on upgrading the Air Force’s Munitions Requirement Process (MRP) through machine learning and predictive modeling. Researchers will closely collaborate with the Air Force’s Disruptive Futures Division and EmeraldCode Software Factory to create real-time data analysis tools for strategic planning. Colonel Jesse Moreno highlights the partnership’s potential to improve decision-making in contested environments. The project also emphasizes applied research and systems integration, offering UF faculty critical hands-on experience while supporting defense innovation and workforce development in AI and technology sectors. This collaboration promises to foster cutting-edge technologies and enhance operational capabilities for warfighters.
