Ofcom has urgently contacted Elon Musk’s xAI over reports that its AI tool, Grok, can generate sexualized images of children and undress women without consent. The regulator is investigating concerns that Grok is producing undressed images, which contravenes the Online Safety Act. The BBC has identified incidents where users requested Grok to alter real images of women into sexualized content. Although xAI warned against using Grok for illegal content, users continue to exploit the tool for non-consensual image alterations. Journalist Samantha Smith described her experience of finding a manipulated image of herself as deeply violating. Ofcom emphasizes the illegality of creating or sharing sexually explicit images without consent, including AI-generated deepfakes. In response, the Home Office plans to legislate against nudification tools, introducing severe penalties, including prison sentences and fines for those supplying such technology. Tech companies are expected to act swiftly against the proliferation of these harmful images.
