A recent study reveals that 59% of workers utilize unapproved AI tools, known as shadow AI, posing significant risks to organizational security. Shockingly, 93% of executives and senior managers are the primary offenders, with 75% of users admitting to sharing sensitive data. Commonly shared information includes employee (35%), customer (32%), and financial (21%) data. Despite 89% of workers recognizing AI-associated risks, only 64% acknowledge potential data breaches linked to shadow AI. Many workers would stop using these tools post-breach, but few take preventative actions. Alarmingly, 23% of companies lack an official AI policy, and only 52% provide approved tools that meet employee needs. To mitigate these risks, organizations must implement robust AI policies and provide secure, tailored tools for employees. As Cybernews highlights, companies should focus on integrating AI into their processes responsibly to safeguard against data vulnerabilities.
