Understanding the Impact of Digital Transformation on Nursing

Share

Digital health experts are optimistic about the NHS’s new 10 Year Health Plan unveiled by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, noting the focus on digital transformation as a key strategy for resolving current challenges. Health Secretary Wes Streeting emphasized a shift to a digitally enabled NHS, planning to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and the NHS App into patient care. The initiative aims to make the NHS the most AI-enabled health system globally, enhancing diagnostics and streamlining processes through technology like ambient voice transcription. The NHS App will facilitate appointment bookings and feature a Single Patient Record by 2028, enabling direct communication with healthcare professionals. Concerns remain over the implementation and effectiveness of these technologies. Emma Doyle from Future Nurse and Chris Fleming from Public Digital highlighted the importance of organizational and cultural changes alongside technological advancements. The success of this ambitious plan will rely heavily on effective delivery and management, scheduled to be addressed in further discussions later this year.
