University Seminars Delve into AI and the Medieval Era

The University Seminars at Dartmouth are launching a new series focused on “AI and Foreign Language Teaching and Learning.” Sponsored by the Office of the Provost, this forum encourages interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty. Vice Provost Barbara Will emphasizes its informal nature, designed for open dialogue rather than specific outcomes. The new seminar, coordinated by language program directors Tania Convertini and Roberto Rey Agudo, aims to explore how AI can enhance, rather than replace, language learning. They note the importance of understanding AI’s role in education, focusing on themes like AI’s impact on pedagogy, assessment, and digital literacy. The series will occur monthly from February to May, with prominent speakers like Roopika Risam. This initiative builds upon past successes and aims to foster critical discussions surrounding AI’s role in shaping modern education and language acquisition. The Provost’s Office also invites proposals for future seminars, reinforcing a commitment to innovative teaching practices in the digital age.
