Liquid AI, a startup founded by ex-MIT researchers, has launched the Liquid Edge AI Platform (LEAP), a software development kit (SDK) designed to integrate small language models (SLMs) into mobile apps. This innovation addresses developer concerns over cloud-based AI services related to latency, cost, and privacy. LEAP enables models to run directly on devices, simplifying the deployment process for developers lacking machine learning expertise. The SDK supports both iOS and Android, featuring models as small as 300MB, making it accessible for devices with limited RAM. Complementing LEAP is Apollo, a free iOS app for testing these models offline, enhancing user privacy and reducing cloud reliance. Designed as an all-in-one solution for edge AI, LEAP facilitates model discovery, adaptation, and deployment, while fostering a developer community on Discord. Currently free, with premium features planned, LEAP represents a significant step toward decentralizing AI access for developers.
