The Slow Deployment of Agentic AI: Key Challenges and Insights
Agentic AI deployment is lagging, with approximately 50% of initiatives stuck in proof-of-concept phases, hampered by governance, privacy, compliance, and skill shortages. According to a Dynatrace report, organizations struggle to achieve their anticipated ROI primarily due to barriers like lack of a clear business case, shared by one-third of respondents. Despite challenges, 74% of businesses plan to increase AI budgets next year, focusing on IT operations, software engineering, and customer support. However, the highest ROI is expected from IT operations and cybersecurity. Key obstacles include security concerns (52%), managing agents at scale (51%), and scarcity of skilled staff (44%). Leaders anticipate a balanced human-machine collaboration, with 69% of decisions still requiring human validation. To enhance deployment, Dynatrace suggests redefining ROI metrics and establishing guidelines for collaboration, emphasizing gradual scaling rather than rushed investments.
