OpenAI has launched the ChatGPT Agent, a next-generation digital assistant surpassing typical virtual assistants. Unlike its predecessors, the Agent can perform tasks autonomously, leveraging a virtual computer with a real browser. It integrates the strengths of earlier systems—Operator for user actions, Deep Research for data analysis, and ChatGPT for natural language processing. This tool can execute commands like checking calendars and summarizing client updates or creating meal plans, all without manual intervention.
The ChatGPT Agent is powered by the Computer-Using Agent (CUA), which can click, type, and navigate webpages effectively, while also employing Deep Research for in-depth analyses. Although it’s a powerful tool, it includes safety measures to prevent misuse of sensitive information and allows users to maintain control over actions.
Currently available for Pro, Plus, and Team subscribers, the ChatGPT Agent simplifies everyday tasks, signaling a notable shift in AI technology and automation. As OpenAI continues to evolve, accessibility will expand to various customer segments.
