Unlocking Opportunities: Strengthening Identity Access for AI Agents

Concerns over AI agents’ security and privacy are delaying their widespread adoption, said Shiv Ramji, president of Auth0 at Okta. Key bottlenecks include authorization management and deployment scalability. Forrester analyst Andras Cser highlighted that these agents pose unique identity challenges in enterprise and customer-facing IT, necessitating robust Identity Access Management (IAM) solutions. Organizations are urged to assign minimal agency to AI, implementing continuous risk management to safeguard operations. Okta recently launched Auth0 for AI Agents, which offers comprehensive audit logging of agent activities, enhancing security oversight. Ramji emphasized the importance of a secure token vault for managing agent credentials, ensuring that no agent possesses greater permissions than its user. As AI agent applications proliferate, IAM vendors like Okta and Microsoft play crucial roles in agent attestation. While Ramji remains cautious about declaring 2026 as the definitive “year of the AI agent,” he acknowledges increasing consumer acceptance and evolving security frameworks.
