Huawei is introducing AI MOS, a new metric for evaluating service quality in AI applications, inspired by the Mean Opinion Score for voice services. As AI agent applications are anticipated to produce significantly more uplink traffic compared to traditional mobile services, telecom networks must adapt accordingly. This traffic shift could see connections from AI agents soar to 100 billion, leading to heightened infrastructure demands across mobile networks, cloud systems, and edge computing.
During the recent MWC, Huawei’s Zhao Dong highlighted that the mobile industry is entering the “agent era,” necessitating a focus on uplink capacity. For instance, an AI museum guide trial demonstrated a 63% uplink traffic share. To support these changes, Huawei advocates for “agent-oriented networks” and the A2A-T protocol for agent communication. With ongoing discussions among industry partners and organizations like the ITU, Huawei envisions a collaborative ecosystem to enhance the development of AI services.
