Recently, a viral post inaccurately claimed that without this feature, Meta’s AI could access private conversations. This claim misrepresents Meta AI’s function, as end-to-end encryption protects chat content, while interactions with Meta AI remain unencrypted. Advanced Chat Privacy allows users to block chat exports, disable auto-downloading of media, and limit some AI capabilities on a per-chat basis, enhancing privacy. To enable it, users simply tap the chat name and toggle the settings. However, this feature requires collaboration in one-on-one chats since either participant can modify it. Group admins can restrict permissions for additional control. Ongoing concerns about WhatsApp’s metadata collection highlight the need for clearer privacy settings, emphasizing the appeal of alternatives like Signal, known for their simplicity and robust privacy defaults.
