Untrained Programmer Creates Tax Preparation App in Just Weeks

Journalist Ryan Lizza has developed a tax filing app, Telos Tax, using AI-generated code, despite having no coding skills. Displeased with Intuit’s TurboTax, he utilized “vibe coding” to create this innovative software, which he describes as “TurboTax on steroids.” The app offers features like step-by-step guidance, the ability to import tax documents, and a dashboard for managing over 20 tax variables. It also has a unique privacy feature, with tax returns encrypted and stored only locally, ensuring personal data remains secure. Lizza is seeking experts to stress-test the app, recognizing its experimental nature. He warns users against filing taxes with it, keeping in mind its AI-generated code may have flaws. Available on GitHub as an open-source project, Telos Tax could potentially revolutionize the accounting software market, showcasing how AI can enable rapid software development without extensive programming expertise.
