Lobster, an innovative AI assistant known as OpenClaw, is attracting significant attention in China. Developed by Austrian programmer Peter Steinberger and described by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang as “the next ChatGPT,” OpenClaw serves as a proactive digital assistant that manages tasks such as job applications, emailing, and online shopping with minimal user supervision. Launched in November 2024, it quickly became popular in China, where traditional AI tools like ChatGPT are blocked, and more than 600 million people engage with generative AI.
The tool appeals to users amid a challenging job market, particularly among the youth, helping them navigate applications and prepare for interviews. Chinese tech companies, including Tencent and Alibaba, have embraced OpenClaw, integrating it into their platforms. However, concerns about cybersecurity risks have emerged due to the deep access required to user data. Despite these issues, many view OpenClaw as a revolutionary step towards a future where AI supports entrepreneurship and productivity.
