Unveiling the Creators of MediSafe: A Hong Kong Student and a US Software Company Both Claim Ownership

admin

Hong Kong authorities are investigating a medication prescription app, MediSafe, created by St Paul’s Co-educational College student Poon, which has been used at a clinic since 2022. The inquiry was prompted by allegations from City University student Hailey Cheng, who questioned the app’s invention claims and the integrity of STEM competitions in secondary schools. Poon faced accusations online of being a “fake inventor,” but she stated she is undergoing verification with the competition organizers. The app, developed by a US-based AI agency and endorsed by her father, Dr. Ronnie Poon, has won multiple accolades, including a silver medal at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva (2025). The Digital Policy Office and Education Bureau are assessing the situation, especially concerning patient privacy associated with MediSafe’s usage in clinics.
