Upcoming Changes: Google Gemini to Utilize Your Uploads for AI Training—Here’s What You Need to Know and How to Opt Out

Google is updating its Gemini AI service, effective September 2, allowing the use of shared files, photos, and videos for AI training by default. Users need to adjust their settings if they wish to opt out. The Gemini Apps Activity setting will be renamed to Keep Activity, impacting how Google refines its AI models using user prompts and uploads. Users can activate Temporary Chats to keep discussions private, which won’t contribute to AI training and will be deleted after 72 hours. Recording options from Gemini Live sessions will be managed within account history, and audio recordings are not used unless explicitly allowed. Google retains recent conversations for 72 hours for security. Users can delete or manage their data through myactivity.google.com, with an auto-delete feature set for 18 months by default. These changes raise privacy concerns, emphasizing the need for users to review and manage their settings.
