Using Google Gemini to Determine if a Video or Photo is AI-Generated

With the rise of AI-generated content, distinguishing between original and AI-manipulated media is increasingly challenging. Google addresses this issue with its new content transparency tools. The Gemini app allows users to verify whether images or videos have been created or edited using Google’s AI. This is made possible through SynthID watermarking, which embeds undetectable marks in AI-generated content.

To verify content, simply open the Gemini app, upload your media (up to 100 MB for videos), and ask if it was generated by Google AI. Gemini scans for the SynthID watermark, providing detailed insights about the content’s authenticity, including specific segments that contain AI elements. Since its launch in 2023, Google has watermarked over 20 billion pieces of AI content, enhancing content credibility. By collaborating with partners, Google aims to set content authenticity standards, empowering users to discern the originality of online media effectively.
