Verifi has launched a new image authentication tool, spuuf, to combat increasing fraud in the asset finance industry by detecting fake photographs submitted during remote inspections. Integrated into verifi’s inspection platform, “self-certifi,” spuuf employs advanced AI to verify the authenticity of images in real time, identifying manipulated or staged photos. This move responds to lenders’ concerns over borrowers providing altered images to support finance applications or meet audit requirements. Co-founder Jonathan Garnett emphasized the importance of addressing risks arising from a digital shift, noting that spuuf detects subtle signs of manipulation, analyzing metadata and image anomalies. When potential fraud is identified, lenders receive an automated alert for further review. Verifi’s self-certifi platform enables mobile inspections while capturing contextual data, thereby minimizing deception opportunities. The introduction of spuuf aims to automate manual reviews, enhance fraud detection, and support lenders in managing operational and regulatory risks effectively.
