Voice Search in the Google App Takes on a Gemini-Inspired Redesign

Google App Update: Enhanced Voice Search Interface (January 19, 2026)

On January 19, 2026, the Google app unveiled a significant visual update to its voice search interface, now reflecting a modernized, Gemini-inspired aesthetic. Users can now see a microphone icon replacing the cartoon face and the prompt “Listening…” has shifted to “Ask anything.” This upgrade, initially available in version 17.2.51.sa.arm64, isn’t widely rolled out yet.

Moreover, the voice search interface is now enhanced with softly glowing colors that align with Google’s contemporary design across its platforms. The previous four-dot animation has been replaced by a new horizon-shaped bar, improving user interaction. In addition, song search features have been rejuvenated; the old sphere animation is gone, substituted by the same glowing horizon, with streamlined text prompts like “Play/Sing/Hum.” These updates can be accessed via microphone icons in the Google Search app and home screen widgets, enhancing overall user experience.
