OpenAI recently launched its highly anticipated GPT-5 model, claiming enhancements in coding, reasoning, accuracy, writing, and multi-modal capabilities, alongside a reduced hallucination rate. However, longtime ChatGPT users expressed disappointment, particularly because OpenAI discontinued popular older models such as GPT-4o and GPT-4.1. Complaints flooded social media, with users remarking GPT-5’s lack of personality and emotional intelligence compared to its predecessor. Many users took to Reddit to voice their frustrations, highlighting how GPT-4o served as a more engaging companion, while others threatened to cancel subscriptions due to perceived dishonesty in performance claims during the launch event. In response, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman acknowledged the backlash and announced plans to increase message limits for ChatGPT Plus users and extend access to GPT-4o. Altman emphasized transparency regarding model performance and promised UI improvements for a better user experience.
