WhatsApp Introduces AI-Generated Summaries for Private Messaging

WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that leverages Meta AI to summarize unread personal chats. Users can access this feature by tapping a button to reveal missed messages, which will instead display a bulleted summary generated by the AI. Currently available in English in the US, the feature is set to expand to more countries and languages later this year. Utilizing Meta’s Private Processing technology, the app aims to protect user privacy by creating a “secure cloud environment,” ensuring that neither Meta nor WhatsApp can access the summaries. Additionally, other participants in group chats will not be able to see the generated summaries, maintaining confidentiality.
