YouTube has expanded its conversational AI tool to smart TVs, gaming consoles, and streaming devices, enhancing user interaction beyond mobile and web. This experimental feature enables viewers to ask questions about the video directly without leaving the playback screen. Users can tap an ‘Ask’ button on their TV interface or use a remote control microphone to inquire about content, such as ingredients in cooking videos or song lyrics context. Currently available to select users over 18, the tool supports English, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, and Korean. As of April 2025, YouTube comprised 12.4% of total U.S. TV viewing time, outpacing platforms like Netflix. This expansion follows similar initiatives from Amazon and Roku, which have introduced AI voice assistants. YouTube continues to innovate with additional AI features for TVs, including HD enhancement and an AI comments summarizer, reinforcing its commitment to an enhanced viewing experience across platforms.
