YouTube has broadened its experimental conversational AI feature to smart TVs, gaming consoles, and streaming devices, enhancing user interactivity during video playback. Initially launched in 2024 for mobile and web, the AI assistant allows viewers to ask questions about content, such as ingredients in recipe videos or song backgrounds, without interrupting their viewing experience. Users can press an “Ask” button or use the remote’s microphone for inquiries. Currently available to select users aged 18 and older, the tool supports multiple languages, including English and Spanish. This expansion comes as YouTube sees rising viewership on TVs, claiming 12.4% of total television audience time, according to a Nielsen report. Competing platforms like Amazon’s Alexa+ and Roku’s upgraded AI are also enhancing conversational features. Additionally, YouTube has launched tools for video enhancement and AI-driven comments summarization, while allowing creators to produce AI-generated Shorts and introducing a new app for Apple Vision Pro.
