Indian quick commerce startup Zepto has introduced an innovative open-source AI tool that enables users to place orders at Zepto Café using natural language prompts. Powered by large language models like Claude, this project underscores Zepto’s commitment to AI-driven workflows. Co-founder Aadit Palicha promoted the initiative on LinkedIn, showcasing the company’s innovative spirit.
At its core, the tool utilizes Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing the system to interpret user intent and execute tasks via a controlled interface. Unlike traditional chatbots, this setup employs Playwright, a browser automation framework, enabling the AI to interact seamlessly with web browsers—selecting delivery addresses and completing orders like a human user.
Though currently for internal use, the project exemplifies how large language models can revolutionize consumer interactions. Zepto’s initiative reflects a growing trend in agentic AI, hinting at future advancements in natural language interfaces in commerce.
