Meta Welcomes Three Former OpenAI Researchers Amid Ongoing Talent Poaching

admin

Meta is intensifying its efforts to enhance its AI capabilities by hiring three researchers from OpenAI, including Lucas Beyer, Alexander Kolesnikov, and Xiaohua Zhai, who helped establish OpenAI’s Zurich office. This move follows Meta’s recent $14.3 billion investment for a 49% stake in Scale AI and the hiring of its former CEO, Alexander Wang, to lead a new ‘superintelligence’ team. Meta has also attempted to acquire Safe Superintelligence (SSI), co-founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, but the offer was declined. The company is aggressively seeking top talent, offering lucrative compensation packages, including signing bonuses of up to $100 million, amid fierce competition with firms like OpenAI and Anthropic. Industry experts note that the current AI talent landscape is highly competitive, with significant financial incentives driving recruitment across the sector.
