Microchip’s latest offering enhances its microcontroller (MCU) and microprocessor (MPU) platforms with integrated software and development tools, enabling engineers to create secure, energy-efficient AI applications at the edge. Positioned near sensors in industrial, automotive, and consumer systems, these devices ensure real-time decision-making and low power consumption. As stated by Mark Reiten, Microchip’s Edge AI vice president, AI at the edge has become essential due to its advantages over cloud solutions. The newly launched full-stack solutions include pre-trained models and customizable application code, addressing use cases like electrical arc fault detection, predictive maintenance, on-device facial recognition, and keyword spotting. Microchip’s MPLAB X IDE and Harmony framework streamline the development process from 8-bit MCUs to complex 16- and 32-bit applications. The VectorBlox Accelerator SDK 2.0 further supports advanced vision processing. This initiative aligns with the trend of embedding AI into MCUs, enhancing data privacy and reducing latency in edge computing.
