Africa sets the stage for AI sovereignty with the launch of Model Context Protocol hackathon

The MCP Hackathon Africa 2025 is set to take place from September to November 2025 across 40 cities, bringing together developers, researchers, and students to create solutions using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). This initiative aims to empower Africa in shaping Artificial General Intelligence by integrating local languages and priorities into AI ecosystems, safeguarding digital sovereignty. Participants will have access to mentorship, resources, and a total prize pool of $9,500, culminating in a showcase in Cape Town on November 11–12. The hackathon focuses on innovation in telecommunications, fintech, agriculture, and public services, addressing real-world challenges. Supported by key technology partners, the event reflects a commitment to advancing Africa’s digital future. The Cortex Hub, a non-profit innovation center, aids in nurturing local talent and fostering innovation, ensuring Africa’s leadership in global AI development. Join this transformative journey to embed African contexts in AI’s evolution, promoting a future where Africa is a creator, not just a consumer, of technology.
