Software development teams in Singapore are experiencing an “AI paradox,” as highlighted in GitLab’s 2025 DevSecOps report. While artificial intelligence accelerates coding, it also introduces operational complexities, leading to an average loss of eight hours per week due to inefficient workflows—an hour more than the global average. Key issues include a lack of knowledge sharing (34%), insufficient cross-functional communication (34%), and unclear processes (33%). Additionally, 62% of respondents utilize over five tools for development, and 54% use multiple AI tools. Notably, 98% are currently leveraging AI in their workflows, with 40% trusting it to manage a significant portion of their tasks. However, concerns remain about AI-generated code, and 88% of respondents believe essential human qualities in software development will remain irreplaceable. As regulatory pressures rise, 71% agree AI complicates compliance management, driving interest in integrated governance approaches. A shift towards platform-based models is essential for future success in AI-driven software development.
