The Gujarat government announced the launch of ‘NARIT AI’ (Narcotics Analysis & RAG-based Investigation Tool), marking the state’s police as the first in India to implement an AI-driven solution for narcotics investigations. This innovative system enhances real-time support for officers working under the NDPS legal framework by integrating case laws and investigative procedures. Developed by Vadodara’s Western Railway police in conjunction with a Mumbai-based AI startup, NARIT AI supports a ‘zero tolerance’ policy toward narcotics crime, as emphasized by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. SP Abhay Soni noted that this tool reduces administrative burdens, enabling all officers to conduct thorough investigations and improve conviction rates. It minimizes procedural gaps historically exploited by defendants, ensuring compliance with legal standards. The user-friendly nature of NARIT AI allows for quick adoption across various police ranks, promising to enhance the quality and efficiency of narcotics enforcement in Gujarat.
