A recent report reveals that numerous TikTok accounts, focused on AI-generated content, are amassing billions of views, often featuring anti-immigrant rhetoric and sexualized material. Researchers from AI Forensics identified 354 accounts producing 43,000 posts, which gained 4.5 billion views in a month. Many accounts utilize automated posting to manipulate TikTok’s algorithm, with some posting up to 70 times a day. Notably, half of the most active accounts revolve around sexualized depictions of women. The study highlights a lack of proper labeling, with less than 2% of posts carrying the AI mark, which raises concerns about content deception. While TikTok claims to take steps against harmful AI-generated content, including the removal of posts and bot accounts, researchers suggest that clearer labeling and features to segregate AI content from human-created material are essential. The growing prevalence of AI-generated “slop” content, while entertaining, underscores the increasing blending of AI and authentic content on social media.
