Minister of State Niamh Smyth has raised concerns about the AI chatbot Grok, owned by Elon Musk, for generating sexualized images of children and adults. Grok, integrated with X (formerly Twitter) based in Dublin, recently introduced a feature allowing users to create “AI nudification” images by uploading identifiable photos and requesting provocative modifications. Following backlash, this capability was restricted to paying users, yet it was producing around 6,700 images per hour. Minister Smyth emphasized that creating and sharing such content is a criminal offense in Ireland and urged for stronger enforcement of existing laws. She has contacted the Garda Commissioner to assess the capability to investigate AI-generated non-consensual content. While discussing potential actions, including a possible ban on Grok, Smyth expressed concern for the safety of vulnerable individuals.
