Artificial intelligence (AI) skills are highly sought after by employers, yet companies are hesitant to offer higher salaries for these capabilities. According to Payscale’s 2026 Compensation Best Practices Report, over 60% of employers have updated job postings to attract AI-skilled workers. However, only 14% provide higher base pay for such employees, while 55% do not offer any pay differentials for AI proficiency. Despite AI’s potential to transform the labor market, only 30% of employers are replacing human workers with AI, and 59% do not plan to do so. Certain industries, like construction and technology, are leading in AI adoption. Meanwhile, the labor market remains slow, with voluntary turnover at a low 8%, indicating that employees are hesitant to leave their jobs despite dissatisfaction. Organizations are also creating new AI-related roles, enhancing the job landscape, as one in four companies report hiring for these positions.
