AI survey insights: Newer providers concerned about deskilling

As AI technology becomes integral to healthcare, providers must address potential deskilling while enhancing clinical judgment. A recent Wolters Kluwer Health survey highlighted the mixed feelings healthcare professionals have towards AI, with patient safety topping concerns across all demographics. Interestingly, younger clinicians, often digital natives, displayed less apprehension regarding AI bias and accuracy—only 12% of them prioritized bias compared to 16% of their more experienced counterparts. However, 33% of newer providers identified deskilling as a major concern, indicating awareness of how reliance on AI could affect their clinical thinking. To combat these issues, healthcare leaders should implement comprehensive AI training programs to foster critical clinical skills alongside technological expertise. This emphasis on structured mentorship will ensure that providers can safely integrate AI into their practices, balancing efficient information gathering with informed clinical decision-making.
