Dr. Robert Green, former head of science and technology at the UK Police Standards Unit, expressed optimism about the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in crime scene analysis during his visit to the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar. He highlighted the rapid advancements in forensic science in India, noting the evolution from traditional fingerprint protocols to modern technologies like DNA analysis and computer databases. Dr. Green, an OBE awardee and academic at the University of Kent, emphasized the importance of forensic science in India’s justice delivery system, suggesting that a central DNA database could enhance investigations. Additionally, NFSU’s Vice-Chancellor Dr. J M Vyas introduced virtual crime scene management training, utilizing augmented reality (AR) systems to aid forensic analysis. As forensic science continues to adapt and innovate, technologies like AI and AR are poised to significantly improve criminal investigations and evidence handling, shaping the future of the field.
