Up to 450,000 disadvantaged children could gain access to AI-powered tutoring tools designed to provide personalized, one-on-one learning support, leveling the educational playing field. The government’s initiative aims to eliminate barriers to opportunity, as only 25% of disadvantaged students achieve a grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSEs. Research indicates that personalized tutoring can boost learning by approximately five months, yet access remains skewed towards wealthier families. The government is collaborating with educators and tech experts to create safe, effective AI tutoring tools that align with the National Curriculum, enhancing face-to-face teaching rather than replacing it. By summer 2023, trials will begin in secondary schools, with a rollout expected by the end of 2027. This effort seeks to bridge the educational gap, ensuring that all children can thrive academically, regardless of background, while providing robust training for teachers to implement these technologies safely and effectively.
