Anthropic has announced changes to Claude’s office hours that will affect user experience. Technical team member Thariq Shihipar revealed on Twitter that the company is throttling usage during peak hours, limiting sessions for all subscription levels. Users will now progress through their 5-hour session limits faster from 5am–11am PT (1pm–7pm GMT), particularly impacting those on the $100/month Max subscription. Approximately 7% of users may face session limits earlier, prompting Shihipar to advise running token-intensive jobs during off-peak hours. In contrast, OpenAI is seizing this opportunity by removing usage caps on its Codex platform, encouraging users to explore its new plugins without restrictions. Thibault Sottiaux from OpenAI stated that all plans will enjoy unlimited access, strategically attempting to reclaim customers from Anthropic. This shift highlights the competitive landscape in AI tools, where fluctuating usage policies influence user behavior and market dynamics.
