Anthropic has announced that it will no longer support the AI agent platform OpenClaw within Claude subscriptions, effective Saturday at 12 p.m. PT. This decision stems from surging demand for Claude, which briefly topped the US Apple App Store in March. Boris Cherny, head of Claude Code, explained that the high compute demand from third-party tools like OpenClaw strained their systems, prompting the company to focus on its core customers. Users will need to purchase discounted “extra usage bundles” linked to their Claude login or use a separate Claude API key. OpenClaw has gained popularity by enabling users to deploy AI assistants that manage various tasks across applications, sparking an AI agent trend. Notably, Anthropic’s actions reflect broader industry movements, as Google has also restricted third-party tool usage in compliance with terms of service. This shift highlights the increasing demand and evolving landscape of AI technology.
