Anthropic has announced that users of its AI chatbot, Claude, can now access features such as file creation, connectors, and skills without needing a subscription. This change comes shortly after OpenAI’s introduction of ads for its free ChatGPT users. By offering these free capabilities, Anthropic aims to attract users who prefer an ad-free experience. Free users can create and edit various file formats, including Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations, directly in Claude’s interface. The newly introduced connectors allow seamless integration with popular third-party apps like Slack, Asana, and WordPress.
Additionally, users can leverage domain-specific expertise through skills, creating custom capabilities based on their own knowledge. The introduction of a compaction feature enables longer conversations by summarizing previous context, enhancing the user experience. However, the overall limitations of the free plan remain unchanged, which may still affect user engagement. Anthropic is positioning Claude as a competitive alternative to ChatGPT in the chatbot landscape.
