Anthropic in talks to raise up to US$10 billion in new funding to rival OpenAI, xAI

Anthropic is on track to secure up to US$10 billion in a new funding round, surpassing initial expectations and becoming one of the largest funding rounds for an AI start-up. Insider sources revealed discussions are ongoing, and the final amount could vary. Earlier reports indicated Anthropic was negotiating a US$5 billion raise at a valuation of US$170 billion, but investor interest has led to a significant increase in the target. Iconiq Capital is spearheading this funding round, with participation from TPG, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Spark Capital, and Menlo Ventures. Anthropic has also approached the Qatar Investment Authority and Singapore’s GIC for involvement. Founded in 2021 by ex-OpenAI employees, Anthropic aims to be a trustworthy and safety-focused competitor in the AI space, directly challenging OpenAI and Elon Musk’s xAI, which have both secured substantial investments this year for AI advancements.
