Apple is exploring a partnership with Google to integrate the tech giant’s Gemini AI into the revamped Siri, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Initially announced at WWDC 2024, Siri’s major update has faced delays due to engineering challenges. Apple is considering a custom AI model from Google while also assessing its internal models and alternatives from Anthropic and OpenAI, including Claude and ChatGPT. The decision regarding Siri’s new AI foundation is expected soon, as Apple conducts an internal ‘bake-off’ to evaluate two versions—Linwood (powered by its AI) and Glenwood (using external models). Apple may run third-party models on its Private Cloud Compute servers, utilizing Mac chips for AI processing, possibly preventing direct device operation for Siri. These discussions are separate from Apple’s efforts to incorporate chatbots into Apple Intelligence, which already uses ChatGPT for complex queries.
