Apple is striving to enhance its position in the AI market by developing a new AI-powered chatbot, potentially named “Answer Engine.” This initiative aims to compete with established AI chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. Apple has created a dedicated team, known as Answers, Knowledge, and Information (AKI), to oversee this project. Reports indicate that the chatbot will leverage internet-sourced information to answer user queries, with integration planned for services like Siri, Spotlight, and Safari. Job listings related to the chatbot emphasize the importance of candidates with expertise in search algorithms and engine development. Despite previous missteps with AI initiatives like Siri and Apple Intelligence, which faced criticism for inaccuracies, Apple is now focusing on enhancing contextual awareness and language understanding. The AKI team will be led by Robby Walker, who will report to John Giannandrea, Senior VP of Machine Learning and AI Strategy.
