Apple has partnered with Google to utilize Gemini models for Siri and Apple Intelligence, a deal estimated to be worth $5 billion, according to analyst Gene Munster from Deepwater Asset Management. This cloud computing contract will see Apple invest billions over time, reminiscent of a past agreement that made Google’s search the default on Apple devices, valued at approximately $20 billion annually. Apple claims Google’s technology offers the “most capable foundation” for its Apple Foundation Models. However, this partnership raises concerns about the future of Apple’s existing ChatGPT integration, which began in 2024. While Apple maintains that the integration will remain unaffected, Munster questions its long-term viability. Additionally, OpenAI has chosen not to provide custom models to Apple, focusing instead on its own AI initiatives. Compared to competitors like Google and Microsoft, Apple’s investment in AI infrastructure remains conservative, with $12.7 billion allocated for fiscal 2025. The next Siri version is set for release with iOS 26.4 around March or April.
